One of my favorite ways to enjoy coffee is with a cold cup from Café Coffee Day. The cool drink of coffee felt so refreshing on those hot Delhi days. As long as I am craving that coffee, I make this super easy Cold Coffee at home to satisfy that craving. Three ingredients are all you need to make this basic cold coffee recipe!
The possibilities are endless when it comes to jazzing up a simple glass of cold coffee. Here is the most basic version.
Ingredients
This basic recipe for homemade cold coffee uses just 3 ingredients which are readily available at home.
Coffee: The recipe calls for instant coffee, but you can also use espresso shot or even filter coffee decoction. The amount of coffee decoction to be used is 1/4 cup. Your cold coffee will taste different depending on the coffee you use, so make sure you use a coffee you like.
Milk: It is best to use full fat whole milk when making coffee, but you can use any milk you prefer. Skim milk will dilute it a little. Non-dairy milk options such as almond milk and oat milk are also available.
Sugar: to sweeten the cold coffee, I have used white sugar. But you can use other sweeteners of choice.
Step by Step Instructions
1- Heat up 1/4 cup milk in a pan or microwave. Add instant 1 & 1/2 to 2 tablespoons instant coffee to it. You can adjust the amount of coffee powder to taste and how strong coffee you prefer.
2- Add in 3 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste). You can add more or less depending on the sweetness you prefer.
3- Using a spoon or whisk, mix everything together. Since the milk is hot, the coffee and sugar will dissolve easily.
4- Your sweet coffee mix is now ready to be added to the blender. You can also straight away use 1/4 cup of a strong filter coffee decoction or espresso shot.
5- To your blender, now add 2 cups chilled milk. I have used whole milk here. Also add 3 to 4 ice cubes (optional).
6- Add the prepared coffee-sugar mix into the blender. At this point, you can use add vanilla ice cream if you want.
7- Close the lid and blend for few seconds until everything is mixed together and the coffee is frothy.
8- Transfer to glasses and serve immediately. You can pour some chocolate syrup in the glasses and chill for 15 minutes before pouring the coffee in glasses. The foam will settle down after a while so this is best enjoyed immediately especially if you like frothy coffee.
Extra Tips
- It is necessary to make the coffee decoction or instant coffee mixture stronger than it would be for normal coffee, since ice will dilute it later in the process. You need to add a good amount of coffee to make it taste good.
- Make your beverage frothy by using full fat chilled milk. In the case of milk that has not been pasteurized, it should be heated, cooled, and chilled in the refrigerator. Incorporate it into the recipe.
- In this case, I have used milk ice instead of regular ice cubes. It kind of gives you a extra rich iced coffee similar to adding ice cream. You can also use regular ice cubes but I feel the taste dilutes as the ice cubes melt. It’s a personal choice and feel free to use what you like.
